Moms Recommend Math Programs

Local moms recommend math programs that have worked for homeschooling and distance learning. Each of these math programs has worked well for the family recommending it. It’s up to parents and teachers to determine what works well for your particular situation. If you are using a program not mentioned here, please share! info@santacruzparent.com

Art of Problem Solving for older grades  The AoPS curriculum stretches students to their full potential, while our online school connects eager students with inspiring peers and accomplished instructors. We give many of these students their first taste of a world beyond traditional math. A world filled with challenging, intriguing problems that require creativity and persistence to solve. A world where they have access to impressive mentors and role models. And most importantly, a world filled with inspiring peers who share their love of learning—peers that they often first met in AoPS classes and the AoPS online community.   https://artofproblemsolving.com/

Beast Academy. We are experimenting with Beast Academy, but I think the best thing to do is to do lots of games that incorporate math.https://beastacademy.com/

Board games like Sum Swamp (make it harder with multi-sided dice or by multiplying), Dragon Times. Argo Prep has workbooks for around $20 with video lessons. Also check out Math Curious for tons of printable games. You probably don’t want more screen time, but apps like Arithmagic, Slice Fractions, or DragonBox are great, too.

Brain Quest Workbooks. “My boys are sooo far ahead of the classroom work because of brain quest – they love it and it doesn’t feel like a chore to them!!” Curriculum-based, but infused with a spirit of fun, it’s loved by kids, trusted by parents, and used and recommended by teachers because it works – and entertains, too. https://www.workman.com/brands/brain-quest

Eureka Math. Eureka Math connects math to the real world in ways that take the fear out of math and build student confidence—helping students achieve true understanding lesson by lesson and year after year.  Eureka Math was written by a team of teachers and mathematicians who took great care to present mathematics in a logical progression from grade PK—12. This coherent approach allows teachers to know what incoming students already have learned and ensures that students are prepared for what comes next. When implemented faithfully, Eureka Math will dramatically reduce gaps in student learning, instill persistence in problem solving, and prepare students to understand advanced math. https://greatminds.org/math/about-eureka
