Conservation Physiology in Marine Mammals: Predicting Vulnerability in Threatened Cetacean, Pinniped, and Sirenian Species
Each year, marine mammals are exposed to increasing levels of disturbance related to human activities in the marine environment. Whether it’s through competition for food, interaction with boat traffic, resource exploration, or a combination of these and other factors, the marine environment is rapidly changing in many regions. Working with Hawaiian monk seals, Florida manatees, Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, and beluga whales, scientists have developed new methods for measuring the capacity of these animals to adapt to disturbance with the hope of better informing management and conservation practices.
Join Jason John, Ph.D., Science & Technology Policy Fellow, California Council on Science and Technology, to learn more about how marine mammals are responding to these changes.

Join us on the third Sunday of every month (except December) for a public lecture from a marine scientist, who presents current research and topics in an entertaining and easy-to-understand format, with up-to-date photos, video, and discussion.
-Time: 1:30 PM PDT; lectures are one hour long and include time for a few questions at the end.
