Gone are the days when four bags of groceries cost $75 and were enough to feed a family for a week. Even McDonald’s is no longer an inexpensive, guilty night out.

What’s your family’s food/household products shopping cost and strategy?
My Grocery Outlet cart was $105. It’s got chicken, butter, avocados, pork tenderloin, low carb flat breads, cheese, milk, cat litter, chicken nuggets, bread, veggies, mixed greens and more!
Ugh. Fam of 5. Groceries are a robbery!!!! Easily $250-300/wk
Family of 4 — $750/ month.I do one trip a month to Costco for particular items and everything else I get at Grocery Outlet.
For my family of 4 I spend about $100-150 a week. I shop pretty much exclusively at Grocery outlet, hit up food distributions as often as my schedule allows and trade with neighbors
$1000 up to $1500 family of 6 we mostly shop at Costco, Safeway, and Farmers market for vegetables. I pack lunch for my husband every day. We only eat out once a week.
Try to keep it under $650 a month for a family of 5. But we also go to food banks for staples.
I spend around $250 a week at Nob Hill (and go to Costco every other month or so) for 2-3 of us and I cook pretty much every night.
Ugh! I spend approximately $2000/month for a family of 6 I think. Not including takeout and restaurants (nothing fancy or high end). I have some big eaters, but I guess I also need to learn about Grocery Outlet. I currently frequent Safeway and Costco and Trader Joe’s and the Scotts Valley Market for smaller trips.
Family of 3, usually around $450 a month. I have terminal cancer so I’ve been radically changing what we’ve been eating as a family (staying away from toxic prepackaged products). Before I started eliminating prepackaged stuff, we were paying at least $150 more than what we are now.
We are spending a lot – likely about $250 per week with going out for us and our one young adult. Also not into a lot of cooking right now. So pretty much we are greatly reducing our meat and fish eating and it is more affordable and easier since stuff like eggs and tofu and cheese have a longer life in the fridge. Costco has been our main go to lately so we are doing a lot of easy affordable meals like nachos (and adding some scrambled eggs or tofu for breakfast nachos ), big salads with whatever is around, sourdough bread pizzas, bagel sandwiches, yogurt with granola and fruit and nuts, chili with lots of toppings, and Goodles mac n cheese with added veggies and protein. For desserts we are eating lots of watermelon, bananas, box brownies and whichever bulk popsicles sound tasty. I am also trying a prepared food delivery service for a few extra salads each week but I am the only one into eating it – it is called Thistle and I like it because I wanted more veggies for me and less time cooking. I also have liked Foodsmith for locally prepared meals. Food services are more $ but they are less $ than many restaurants and can be more healthy and can help with variety. But usually I am the only one who likes those services.
One hungry child, one adult, about $400-500 month (eating out included).Animal protein, produce and a few bulk items.Doesnt include the occasional Costco run for non perishables.
We are a family of 5 with kids ages 7-12, and we spend about $1200. That includes Costco and paper products/ toiletries.
Family of 3. $190-$240 a week just depending on what I get. We shop primarily at Trader Joe’s.
Family of 4, and we spend $500-600 a month on groceries.
2 adults, 1 teen.$1000 minimum a month. I buy organic for milk, meat, and produce.
Family of 7 (2 adults, 3 teens, 2 children) I budget $1,200 a month for food only–not including household items. We shop at Costco, and Safeway. I only shop pick up orders for Safeway to prevent impulse purchases, and I primarily only shop their deals using the app and I utilize the rewards–otherwise their prices are crazy!
Also, during the school year, 4 of my children utilize the free breakfast/lunch program at school so that cuts costs.
Hope you don’t mind me piggybacking off of this post, but for those who shop at Grocery Outlet: is it like a store where you can do your weekly shopping or more where you stock up on certain things?
Pinnacle Farms at downtown Farmers market for all vegetables and organic/wild. From grocery outlet for health food isle, Trader Joes for fish and nuts, Costco for canned goods, frozen fruit.
$200-250/week family of 4; 2 adults and 2 kids under10
Family of 2 and usually about $600/month
I spend about $250 a week for a family of 3 humans and 5 animals.
What I’m learning is that I need to start going to grocery outlet.
