Watsonville Public Library, Friends of the Watsonville Public Library, and Watsonville-Santa Cruz Japanese American Citizens League invite you to the “Tribute to Mas Hashimoto” event. This special event will honor and commemorate the legacy of our beloved teacher, activist, and community leader, Mas Hashimoto.
Saturday, February 24, 2:00-4:00pm at the Watsonville Civic Plaza, 4th Floor Community Room
All ages are welcome to attend.
The program will include a screening of Mas Hashimoto’s TEDx TALK introducing his presentation of “Racism and America’s Concentration Camps”, with opening remarks by Susan Tatsui D’Arcy who encouraged Mas to do the talk and arranged for filming of the impactful 19-minute video.
Featured guests and performers include:
- Carol Heitzig, former WPL Director current Friends President, as the Mistress of Ceremonies
- a performance by Watsonville Taiko Drummers
- a Haiku in memory of Mas by Bob Gomez, Watsonville Poet Laureate
- speaker presentations and remembrances of Mas Hashimoto by Marcia Hashimoto, Sandy Lydon, Geri Solano-Simmons and Erica Padilla Chavez.
