The Santa Cruz COE is pleased to provide two upcoming sessions of a new Wildland Fire Academy, in partnership with CAL FIRE and the California Conservation Corps.
Participants can complete trainings and receive certification for an entry-level firefighter position, building skills including use of personal protective equipment, deploying a fire shelter, building a secure fire line, mop up and patrol of fire areas, and improving property safety. Must be 18 or older to participate
The Santa Cruz County Office of Education is proud to offer the opportunity to participate in our Wildland Fire Academy. Working in partnership with CAL FIRE and California Conservation Corps, students can complete trainings needed for an entry-level firefighter position.
Students will learn to recognize hazards and unsafe situations.
Trainings offered include:
- Don (put on), doff (take off), and maintain wildland personal protective equipment
- Deploy a fire shelter, maintain suppression hand tools and equipment
- Assemble and prepare for response; construct and secure a fire line
- Reduce the threat of fire exposure to improved properties
- Mop up and patrol of a fire area when working with wildland fires
This course is designed to provide graduates employment opportunities with CAL FIRE or other agencies that accept this level of training.
