Calling all young artists with wild imaginations! Get ready to unleash your creativity and take a thrilling journey back in time to the Ice Age. The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History is hosting an epic Ice Age Art Contest for young artists in grades 3-8, and we want YOU to be a part of it!
Important Dates
Contest Submission Period: February 12, 2024 – March 11, 2024 (midnight PT)
Winner Notification via Email: March 14, 2024
AON Exhibit Opening: March 22, 2024 (with an invite to honor the winners!)
So, young artists, are you ready to embark on this thrilling artistic adventure? Let your creativity soar, and let’s bring the Ice Age back to life through your incredible artwork!
What’s the Challenge?
We’re on the hunt for awe-inspiring artworks showcasing the extraordinary creatures that roamed North America during the Ice Age. Picture this: dire wolves, mammoths, giant ground sloths, mastodons, cave lions, and more! Let your imagination run wild as you bring these ancient beasts back to life through your drawings, sketches, or collages.
How to Create Your Masterpiece?
We’ve got you covered with a special video tutorial from the talented science illustrator Hannah Caisse. Watch her as she reveals the secrets of painting an extinct Ice Age animal. From choosing your favorite creature to researching fascinating facts, Hannah will guide you every step of the way. Get your creative gears turning and let the adventure begin!
Prizes Await!
But wait, there’s more! Three lucky winners (one from each age group) will be chosen to receive incredible prizes. Each winner will be awarded a one-year “Family Level Membership” to the museum, granting you and your loved ones access to a world of wonders. And that’s not all! You’ll also receive a $25 gift certificate for our awesome Museum store, filled with treasures waiting to be discovered.
Show Off Your Skills!
Once your artwork is complete, it’s time to make your mark on history. Submit your paleontological masterpiece to our museum contest. Capture a photo of your artwork (or scan it) and upload it to the submission portal. Brace yourself for the excitement of sharing your talent with the world!
