Step back into the golden age of animation and jazz when IADance presents “Don’t Take My Boop Oop A Doop Away – Musical Justice,” a lively new musical inspired by the iconic Fleischer cartoons of the 1930s and ’40s. Performances will take place April 10th and 11th at IAD’s Ballet Box Theater, 320 Encinal Street in Santa Cruz.
This imaginative production features beloved characters like Betty Boop, Popeye, and more.Can Boop Oop A Doop really be on trial? This playful musical answers the question with song and dance! Inspired by the timeless music of Sammy Timberg, the show blends vintage jazz, theatrical storytelling, and high-energy dance in a family-friendly performance full of heart and humor.
Audience members are encouraged to arrive 20 minutes early to mingle and learn the Boopin’ Stride, a dance inspired by the swing era. Guests are also invited to dress in 1930s–40s style or as their favorite Fleischer character to fully embrace the spirit of the evening.
The production runs under 90 minutes and offers an intimate theatrical experience with limited seating. Step into a vintage world of charm, comedy, and unforgettable characters—this is a show for all ages!
