CZU Community Commemoration
Wednesday, August 18, 6-8pm
Join the communities of the Santa Cruz Mountains one year later. On August 18, 2020, the CZU Lightning Complex Fire forced residents out of their homes. We commemorate the time and celebrate being SCM Strong outdoors at the Historic Brookdale Lodge.
Live music from Wolf Jett and The Post Folk Revivalists. Guest speakers from all over the County, representatives from forest to finance to educate, share updates, and give folks a chance to catch up with each other and what’s going on with fire recovery. Pop-up vaccination clinic, art from the ashes on display. Commemorative issues of the SLV Post “CZU Lightning Fires” special edition, stickers, posters, T-shirts, and the fire maps used by response teams, and more for sale by donation to local agencies. The Alba Schoolhouse bell, which survived the flames, will be on display. MJA Vineyards pours wine.
Huge thanks to the Historic Brookdale Lodge, which hosted responder staging and lodging throughout the firefight. Family friendly, masks are required, proof of vax, or negative test within 72 hours. Bring your mask and your proof. The event is held entirely outdoors. Food and additional drinks will be available on-sight.
From the organizers: “After most community tragedies people come together to support and hold space for one another. It’s human nature and it was something that was denied to us after the CZU Fire because of COVID.
The year anniversary of the CZU Fire is rapidly approaching, and we can all feel the heaviness of that. As a community we went through this trauma together and it’s time for us to come together, fire folks and non-fire folks alike. Coming together is what we do in the mountains, its what makes this truly a special place to live.
Brookdale Lodge has graciously agreed to let us have this community event in their front parking lot. There will be plenty of room for all who want to attend!”
We are stronger together!
