Canning 101: How Water-Bath Canning Works

Saturday, March 21, 3:30 – 5:30pm

Food Preservation Series with Raven Ridge Homestead

Learn purposeful methods for home kitchens in this 3-part homesteading series with Raven Ridge Homestead.

Join us for an introduction to water-bath canning, covering the full process from fruit to finished jar, using jam as the teaching example.

Designed for adults curious about canning but unsure where to start, as well as home cooks who’ve canned before and want a clear refresher, the class focuses on building a confident foundation. Topics include basic equipment, safety fundamentals, and the correct order of operations from prep through processing.

The session is demonstration and discussion based, connecting practical food skills to everyday meals and pantry use. The class includes a seasonal preservation guide and concludes with a brief tasting of thoughtfully prepared preserves for inspiration and reference.

This is Class 1 of a three-part Food Preservation Series. Attendees are welcome to join any or all sessions. The next class, Dehydrating Foods at Home, takes place July 18, followed by Introduction to Pressure Canning on September 19.
