All Fireworks Illegal in the City of Santa Cruz
July
Don’t be the reason for the next CZU fire.
ALL fireworks, even the safe and sane variety, are illegal in the City of Santa Cruz. WHY? California’s drought creates an extreme threat of fire, and fireworks only puts communities at higher risk of wildfire.
Dispatch has received reports of fireworks complaints. Unexpected booms and explosions are seriously upsetting many people and their pets.
Patrol teams busy responding to a multitude of calls for service and will respond to illegal fireworks complaints.
Here’s how you can help.
Use 9-1-1 lines for emergencies only.
When reporting fireworks, call the non emergency line. When contacting Dispatch, provide as much information as possible, including the exact location and a detailed description of the subject(s) using illegal fireworks.
City of Santa Cruz Police Department: 831-471-1131
City of Capitola Fireworks Hotline: 831-475-4242
Unincorporated Areas – SCR911 Non-Emergency Dispatch: 831-471-1121 (includes Aptos, Rio Del Mar, La Selva, Live Oak, Soquel, etc.)
Remember that anyone setting off fireworks is risking starting a wildfire. ALL fireworks that leave the ground or explode are ILLEGAL, and those who use them could face up to a $1,000 fine or more.
