Exploring History Through Colors at Castro Adobe

Saturday, September 21, 10:30am – 3:30pm

During the Rancho Period of California history, dried flowers played a vital role in the art of dyeing thread, adding vibrant and natural hues to fabrics. Each shade told a story of the earth, the seasons, and the creativity of the people who lived here in the 1800’s.

Visit the Castro Adobe open house to see the Santa Cruz Textile Art Guild demonstrating weaving and dyeing skills used in early California. Some of the dyes will actually be extracted from the flowers in the picture that were recently grown in Joe’s Garden on the Rancho

Our open house will be on Saturday, September 21 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Listen to live music by the Poet Laureate of Watsonville, Bob Gomez and his wife Denise while viewing our newly installed interpretive displays. Reservations for a free self-guided tour are recommended at: www.santacruzstateparks.as.me/CastroAdobeOpenHouse

Event made possible by Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks and California State Parks. For more information call (831) 226-9669
