The Western Flyer is coming home at last! After being away for 75 years, the historic Western Flyer—the sardine fishing boat immortalized by John Steinbeck’s 1951 classic The Log from the Sea of Cortez—will return to her home port of Monterey on Saturday, November 4th.
NOVEMBER 4TH WELCOME HOME CELEBRATION EVENT AT A GLANCE
When: Saturday, November 4, 11 am – 4 pm
Old Fisherman’s Wharf – in front of Rockfish Harbor Grill at the end of the Wharf and the Western Flyer will be berthed at the California Dock nearby; Parking is available at the Waterfront Lot adjacent to Old Fisherman’s Wharf. GPS to 201 Washington Street, Monterey.
Join us for a historic homecoming as the Western Flyer returns to Monterey after 75 years!
11 am – The party begins at the end of Old Fisherman’s Wharf – come early to receive a free giveaway!
11:30 am – 12 pm – Boat parade and Best Dressed Boat Contest
12:30 pm – Welcoming Ceremony at California Dock (end of Old Fisherman’s Wharf)
1:15 pm – 4 pm – Free tours of the Western Flyer
Free and open to the public
Event will include: Live music, Science and art activities, Giveaways, Prize drawing, Photo opportunities, Merchandise (for sale), Food and drinks available at Old Fisherman’s Wharf restaurants.
*In case of rain, the festivities will move to the Stanton Center at 5 Custom House Plaza from 12 pm – 2 pm.
