Becoming a Critical Thinker year-long class!
Our teens inhabit a new world. Can you feel the tension? They are bombarded by a relentless tidal wave of information: contradictory headlines, viral videos, AI-generated content, and ranting group chats.
Educating our teens feels harder than ever.
Questions that worry us:
- How do I help young adults separate fact from fiction?
- How do they know who to trust?
- How do they find their own voice in the midst of the noise?
We want our kids to become curious scholars who know how to think, not just what to think.
That’s why we are thrilled to introduce our NEW online class for teens: Becoming a Critical Thinker.
Julie Bogart’s popular workbook Becoming a Critical Thinker (purchase the workbook separately) now has a classroom component!
The Magic of Discussion
We’ve created a discussion-driven space where your teen can engage with the ideas in Becoming a Critical Thinker alongside a community of peers, all under the guidance of a trained Brave Writer coach.
In this class, students will:
- Spot the story — recognize bias, identify misinformation, and analyze the credibility of text
- Navigate perspectives — uncover the complexity of a topic, see multiple viewpoints
- Get comfortable with discomfort — make room for difference of opinion and shift from a posture of ranting to one of engaged listening
- Build critical thinking skills — develop the tools they will use for the rest of their lives
How Class Works
- Recommended Ages: 13-18
- Format: An asynchronous classroom (log in when it fits your schedule) paired with live discussion meetings˘(working camera and microphone needed) on Fridays at 3:00 PM Eastern Time.
- Schedule: One convenient registration covers the full school year across two sessions.
- Fall: October 12 – November 20
- Winter/Spring: February 15 – March 26
Registration opens on July 20th at noon Eastern Time.
Class size will be small to ensure every voice is heard. Spaces will fill up quickly!
Give your teen a safe, supportive space to test their theories, challenge assumptions, and grow into an independent thinker.
Even if your teen has already worked through the content in Becoming a Critical Thinker, they’ll still want to join this vibrant think tank of teens to discuss their ideas and conclusions!
