Free Self-Defense Classes Through Voucher Program
January 25, 2026
The City of Santa Cruz is offering a limited number of free self-defense classes to local residents through the Commission for the Prevention of Violence Against Women (CPVAW) Self-Defense Class Voucher Program.
This program is designed to increase access to personal safety training by covering the cost of self-defense classes at approved partner organizations. Eligible Santa Cruz residents may receive a voucher that can be used to attend a class at no cost.
How the program works:
- Residents complete the City’s Self-Defense Class Voucher Form.
- Vouchers are issued based on eligibility and available funding.
- Vouchers can be used with a registered partner organization.
- Participants attend a self-defense class at no cost.
Registered partner organizations currently include:
- Minorsan – www.minorsan.com
- JP Martial Arts – jpmartialarts@yahoo.com
Vouchers are available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be offered until program funds are exhausted. The program is open to Santa Cruz residents.
Residents interested in requesting a voucher, learning more about the program, or organizations interested in becoming a registered partner can contact: gliebig@santacruzca.gov.
