Santa Cruz Public Libraries (SCPL) is pleased to welcome author Lisa Crawford Watson to the Capitola Branch Library on Saturday, November 22, from 10:30AM-12:00PM to share her memoir, What We Wished For: An Adoption Story.
Released in October 2024, What We Wished For: An Adoption Story shares a woman’s quest to build a loving family. It is a tale of courage, perseverance, and what remains when things don’t go as imagined. This memoir speaks to anyone who has ever struggled with a life-altering decision, one from which there is no turning back. When infant twins in need of a permanent, stable home come into her life, she falls in love with them and knows what she must do. A twin herself, Lisa Crawford Watson believes she has the insight required to mother twins. Determined not to give up, Lisa overcomes her doubts and adopts the sisters out of foster care. However, she faces one hardship after another and quickly learns that raising premature babies born with drugs and alcohol in their systems is a feat of sacrifice and unpredictability.
“As a storyteller, I am intrigued, fascinated, enlightened, motivated, humbled by the stories people share with me. Yet I didn’t know if I had the courage to tell my own story.” said Crawford Watson.
Lisa Crawford Watson has been a freelance writer on the Monterey Peninsula for more than 30 years and has profiled hundreds of notable citizens. She has written weekly articles for the Monterey Herald and several books, including “Legendary Locals of Carmel-by-the-Sea” and taught classes at Monterey Peninsula College and California State University Monterey Bay.
