We’re challenging kids to read 6 books—at least 3 from our recommended reading list and up to 3 of their own selections. Complete this challenge and not only will you have read some fabulous books, you’ll also receive some great prizes: a $5 Bookshop card, a scoop of ice cream from Penny Ice Creamery, a $10 MyBoardwalk card, a free slice of pizza from Pizza My Heart, a special prize from the Santa Cruz Warriors, and a cookie from Freedom Bakery.

How to Get Started: Visit Bookshop Santa Cruz and pick up a Summer Reading bookmark for your age group. You can also order books online and we’ll include a bookmark with your order or download and print one using the PDF on each grade level page. Save your bookmark because it will also be your reading log that you’ll use all summer and return it to us before school starts. Pick out your first book and start reading!

What you’ll read: We’ve prepared a great list of 8 recommended books for each age group. To complete the challenge, read at least three of these recommended titles and up to three books of your own choosing (for a grand total of 6 fabulous books) throughout the summer. How to complete the challenge: Return your bookmark by September 7th and collect your rewards! If you enjoyed a book you read, let us know by writing a short review here (50 words or less) about why you liked it. For each review, your name will be entered into a drawing to win a $50 Bookshop Santa Cruz gift card! Reviews will be posted online for everyone to read. (Note: full names will not be published—only first names or initials.)
