Welcome to Capitola Plein Air! This November, forty professional artists will arrive in Capitola to paint the town…literally!
The City of Capitola Art & Cultural Commission is delighted to host the seventh annual Capitola Plein Air, juried art competition, exhibition, and sale. It is a FREE event, with hands-on art-making for all visitors, live music, and forty local and regional artists selling their works and competing for the top prize.
Dozens of professional artists will paint en plein air in varied mediums, outdoors, throughout Capitola, at locations including New Brighton Beach, Depot Hill, the Esplanade, and the Jewel Box. Artists set up their easels on the wharf, shore, and streets of beautiful Capitola, to paint live for four days. You’ll find hundreds of paintings on display, for sale, and entered into competition on Sunday, November 6. You can take home a piece of Capitola culture, vote for your favorites for the People’s Choice Award, have a delicious meal from the food trucks, or get creative and make some art yourself!
The Exhibition and Art Sale is on Sunday, November 6th, from 11:00AM—4:00PM, at Jade Street Community Center(4400 Jade Street.), more than 100 framed paintings will be on display for the competition, exhibition and sale. The public is invited to vote for the People’s Choice Award!
Monday, October 31 Artists arrive and check-in. Painting begins! Keep an eye out for easels set up throughout Capitola as artists begin to capture the beauty of our landscape.
Tues, Nov 1- Sat, Nov 5 Artists will be painting throughout Capitola including New Brighton Beach, Depot Hill, the Esplanade, and the Jewel Box.
Saturday, Nov 5 10:00AM—2:00PM, All artists are required to paint during this time. The public is invited to view those artists in action! We’ll have a booth set up in the Esplanade near Capitola Beach with a map that shows where all the artists plan to paint that day. Come say hello!
