SUMMARY:Jug Band Festival at Abbott Square
DESCRIPTION:Abbott Square: Jug Band Festival\nThursday-Sunday\, August 6 – 9 \nAugust 6\, 5:45 – 7:30pm: Pono Hawaiian Grill\, 120 Union Street in Santa Cruz\nAugust 7\, 6 – 9pm:  Museum of Art and History\, 725 Front Street in Santa Cruz\nAugust 7\, 7 – 9pm: Abbott Square\, 118 Cooper Street in Santa Cruz\nAugust 8\, 12 –  9pm: Abbott Square\, 118 Cooper Street in Santa Cruz\nAugust 9\, 12 –  9pm: Abbott Square\,118 Cooper Street in Santa Cruz \n\n\n\nJug band music is scrappy\, soulful\, and a little unexpected. \nThe songs are an energetic and artful blend of old-time jazz with blues and gospel. \nIt can be played using washboards\, jugs\, kazoos; anything that can be turned into an instrument – or guitar\, banjo\, and brass – it’s the kind of music that makes you stop and smile! \n\n\n\n  \n  \nA History of Jug Band Music by the Trolley Drops\nFriday\, August 7\, 2026\, 6pm – 7pm in the Mah Garden Room\nLearn about it as Trolley Drop band members give a short slide lecture/musical presentation to kick off the Second Annual Santa Cruz Jug Band Festival. \nThe wild and wacky sound we call Jug Band Music blends musical styles from Europe\, Africa\, and the United States. Jug band music originated in the 1910-1920s\, south of the Mason Dixon line\, and was played both informally and by professional bands in a wide range of settings\, from street corners to the Kentucky Derby. The recordings made of popular jug and washboard bands before World War II now have become the cannon of the genre. \nIn the late 1950s there was a revival of interest in those songs that spawned a jug band revival providing number one hits for rock and roll supergroups. Today the term refers both to bands that play those songs and also to bands that play modern popular songs using jugs and other homemade instruments. Come and learn the colorful and fascinating history of Jug Band Music from Trolley Drop band members Greg Meyer and Peter Thomas. \nhttps://www.santacruzmah.org/events/history-of-jug-band/2026/08/07 \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Sister Act\, The Musical
DESCRIPTION:Sister Act\, The Musical\nThursday – Saturday 7:30-10pm\, July 9-11 & 16-18 + Sunday\, August 2 \nSundays 2pm\, July 12\, 19\, 26 & August 2 \nSister Act hits the stage with the force of a disco ball struck by divine inspiration. \nDeloris\, a bold and big-hearted nightclub singer\, lands in a convent for her own protection and winds up transforming a tuneless choir into a soulful powerhouse. \nHer energy shakes the dust off every pew as she teaches the nuns to sing with joy\, courage\, and a little sparkling attitude. \nAs the sisters find their voices\, the convent becomes a lively hub of music and community\, surprising everyone—including Deloris herself. The show blends warmth\, mischief\, and uplifting musical numbers that celebrate belonging and the thrill of stepping into your own power. \nBy the finale\, the once-quiet convent is radiating harmony\, friendship\, and unstoppable fun. Sister Act delivers a burst of laughter\, heart\, and high-energy music that leaves the audience glowing long after the curtain falls. \nTickets

SUMMARY:Live Oak Farmers Market
DESCRIPTION:Live Oak Farmers Market\nSundays 9am – 1pm year round \nStarted in 2000\, Live Oak Farmers Market is a neighborhood market has grown to be a weekly event that is loved by the communities of Live Oak\, Pleasure Point and Capitola. A decade has past since this market became year round and here you will find an excellent selection of organic produce from local farms\, tree ripened fruits\, dried fruit and nuts\, fresh bread\, pastries\, seafood\, pasture-raised organic meats and more. The market is also the epicenter of the clean food movement\, showcasing amazing Sunday brunch offerings like traditional Michoacan Mexican dishes\, dumplings\, crepes and artisan hand pies. This is your Sunday destination. \n  \nMarket Match\nMarket Match offers farmers’ market customers a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10 on their CalFresh (food stamp) cards at the Live Oak Market. If a customer swipes their CalFresh card for seven dollars\, they get seven dollars in Market Match tokens for free. Swipe $10\, you get $10. The goal of this project is to encourage CalFresh (EBT/SNAP) recipients to take advantage of fresh\, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. By offering an incentive that lowers the price of fresh produce\, we are helping shoppers stretch their food dollars while keeping their families healthy. SCCFM will be offering the Market Match program for the 2020 season. Locate the information booth and the market manager to redeem EBT coins and to participate in the Market Match Program.
