DESCRIPTION:Strawberry Jam 1K/5K Fun Run/Walk\nSaturday\, August 5\, 6:45am \nThe 2nd Annual Strawberry Jam 1K/5K Fun Run/Walk will be held on Saturday\, August 5\, at Ramsay Park in Watsonville. The races start and finish at Ramsay. The Strawberry Jam Fun Run is presented by the Friends of Watsonville Parks and Community Services and the Rotary Club of Freedom in conjunction with the Watsonville Strawberry Festival. \nThis is a moderate hilly\, fun course that starts and ends at Ramsay Park and traverses Watsonville’s famous sloughs with an out and back section on Ohlone Parkway. No dogs\, but families and strollers are welcome. Register on Active.com or on day of race. Races will be coordinated by the Santa Cruz Track Club. \nCheck-in on race day begins at 6:45am at Ramsay Park parking lot. The Kids 1K Fun Run/Walk begins promptly at 7:45am. *Parents are welcome to join and guide their kids through the 1K run. The 5k Fun Run/Walk will follow for those of ages 12+ starting at 8am. There will be portable restrooms and water stations available on day of race. The YouthSERVE Summer Institute offers a FREE 4-week program\, ages 11-18\, that lets you earn community service hours\, collaborate with amazing peers\, and discover your own power to transform our community through service.\n\n\n\nOur group will meet for 4-day sessions each week\, focusing on different impactful projects:\n\n\nSession 1: June 19-22   Dig into food systems and food security. We’ll be at Second Harvest Food Bank\, Homeless Garden Project\, Grey Bears\, and City of Santa Cruz Parks Department.\n\n\nSession 2: June 26-29   Help preserve our environment and make a positive environmental impact by serving in parks and open spaces throughout Santa Cruz County.\n\n\nSession 3: July 24-27   Dive back into food systems and food security. We’re going for a classic rock/americana vibe for this quarterly music series and are pleased to showcase these three musical acts: Anthony Arya\, Andy Furhman and His Fabulous Friends and The Groovehounds \nAnthony Arya is a folk/rock performing and recording artist from Santa Cruz\, California. In Fall 2018\, at age 15\, Anthony was a contestant on Season 15 of NBC’s The Voice. Shortly after he released his debut album Going To California. With rocking crowd favorites such as “Slow Train” and “Blues By Midnight”\, Anthony quickly became one of the most popular artists in music-rich Santa Cruz\, California. His music is frequently played on the iconic roots radio station KPIG. \nAndy Furhman: Born and raised on the beach\, boardwalk and streets of Coney Island in Brooklyn\, NY in 1950\, a variety of music was heard throughout the neighborhood which was rich with talent\, from Woody Guthrie\, Carole King\, Neil Sedaka\, Neil Diamond\, The Tokens and from other local neighborhoods\, the Four Seasons\, Jay & The Americans\, Dion & The Belmonts. In 2009 Andy started playing his eclectic mix of Americana tunes consisting of Originals\, Folk\, Country\, Rock\, Bluegrass\, Rockabilly\, Blues and of course some Brooklyn Doo-Wop. \nHarpin Jonny and the Groovehounds are a one of a kind sound of rock and blues that will get you out on the dance floor. Their lively tunes are a favorite for all of the swing dancers.This band features a very talented group of musicians. Harpin Jonny\, a virtuoso harmonica player and singer\, breathes a mouthful of life into his harmonica. The band features Tom Lawson on vocals and keyboards\, Jamey DeMaria on drums\, and Joe Vallaire on bass (all three were formerly the rhythm section of Red Beans and Rice)

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the City of Santa Cruz UCSC Bike Share Launch  \nTuesday\, June 20\, 2pm\n \nThe community is invited to celebrate the ribbon-cutting for a new countywide bike share system that launches throughout the City of Santa Cruz and UC Santa Cruz campus on Tuesday\, June 20. The event begins at 2 p.m. with refreshments hosted by bike share vendor BCycle at Santa Cruz City Hall Courtyard\, 809 Center Street. \nThe event continues at 2:30 p.m. with remarks from officials including Santa Cruz Mayor Fred Keeley\, UCSC Chancellor Cynthia Larive\, City of Santa Cruz Public Works Director Nathan Nguyen and BCycle Executive Director Brian Conger. The event concludes with these and other officials taking a short inaugural bike ride at 3 p.m. \nThe event kicks off public access to a countywide bike share system that also includes the County of Santa Cruz\, City of Capitola\, Cabrillo College and City of Watsonville. The system\, fully owned and operated by BCycle\, is scheduled to extend to these other locations in early 2024. BCycle and its parent company\, Trek\, are financing all capital and operating costs. \nThe June 20 launch will include up to 400 electric-assist bikes available at 800 docks throughout the City of Santa Cruz and UCSC. The countywide rollout will eventually extend the system to include 660 total e-bikes and 1\,320 total docks. \nThis implementation of a regional bike share system reflects the policy goals of the participating jurisdictions to reduce single-occupant vehicle trips and greenhouse gas emissions\, improve multimodal mobility\, and increase the number of trips made by non-auto modes. A single vendor was chosen to ensure that bike sharing is available and accessible for all community members\, including students and those with limited income. DESCRIPTION:Home Garden Tour\nSaturday\, June 3\, 12 – 4:30pm \nThe Home Garden Tour will showcase five homes and three gardens throughout Santa Cruz County where guests can view some of the region’s most exquisite architecture\, interior design\, and landscaping. Ticket holders will begin their journey in the Santa Cruz neighborhood of Pasatiempo\, where they will receive a free copy of the Home & Garden Tour magazine\, and have the opportunity to indulge in a poolside champagne luncheon for $25. Guests can also visit Shops at the Home Tour to discover handcrafted items by local artists and merchants. \nProperties featured include the original Clubhouse at Pasatiempo\, a historic landmark designed by Clarence Tantau in 1930. Open for tours exclusively for this event\, this simplified Monterey-style\, two-story house is distinguished by its grand style in the California tradition\, and showcases many fine architectural details including a finely proportioned two story verandah on the south side of the home. Surrounding the home are a guest house and extensive gardens originally designed by nationally recognized Landscape Architect\, Thomas Church. Also showcased in this year’s event are: a decommissioned church that now serves as a family home in westside Santa Cruz\, a modern home with dramatic curves and ocean views in Aptos\, a classic home with an ADU and stunning views near UC Santa Cruz\, and a Pasatiempo home with its own fully stocked whiskey bar. Gardens include the ultimate rose garden in Larkin Valley\, a stunning designer garden on 16th Avenue\, and an award winning waterfall garden in Felton. \nAll proceeds from the Home & Garden Tour benefit the Santa Cruz Symphony\, and support music education for more than 6\,000 students in schools throughout Santa Cruz County.
