With renowned music of Tchaikovsky’s original score set by the Moscow Symphony\, this production has become an annual tradition\, showcasing local dancers\, as well guest artists from the Bay Area and beyond. What better way to ring in the season than with smiles\, beauty\,  laughter and cheer! Join the festivities and kick off your holidays! \nAs opening night nears\, the enchanting music of the Sugar Plum Fairy fills the studios of the International Academy of Dance\, as talented and devoted artists practice\, practice\, practice. Mini mice\, toy soldiers\, gingersnaps and lambs rehearse attentively alongside superbly trained flowers\, snowflakes and lead dancers to bring magic to the stage. \nEach year\, families pour their heart into the Nutcracker both on stage and off. It truly takes a village and we are so thankful for our beautiful community of parents\, dancers and supporters. SCCB Artistic Director/Choreographer\, Shannon Chipman\, alumnae of the Juilliard School and Santa Cruz native\, began the Nutcracker tradition as the Snow Queen in the first production of the Nutcracker in Santa Cruz at Cabrillo’s theater in 1988 under the tutelage of Jean Dunphy and Vicki Bergland (co-Director of this production). Since 2009\, Miss Chipman has brought her vision to life with Co-Director/Choreographer\, Vicki Bergland. Chipman and Bergland combine their artistic efforts to once again bring the stunning Nutcracker Ballet at Cabrillo’s Crocker Theater to life. \nThis year marks 35 years of Nutcracker for Chipman & Bergland. Cast members who first graced the stage in our original Nutcracker in 2009 and beyond\, as a Gingersnaps and Lambs\, have grown up with the production and are now dancing featured roles en pointe. Some of the most adorable little ones take the stage for the first time. The youngest dancer is two this year\, and can be seen dancing alongside her dad in the Party Scene. Every year there is something new to see… new choreography\, new costumes\, special additions\, delightful guest artists and wonderful surprises! \nWe invite you to experience elegant\, entertaining Classical Ballet and the Joy of Dance only SCCB can bring! DESCRIPTION:Nutcracker Performance by the Santa Cruz City Ballet\nSaturday\, December 17\, 1pm or 4:30pm and Sunday\, December 18\, 1pm or 4:30pm \nJoin us for our annual Santa Cruz Nutcracker performance! Featuring dancers from all ages and backgrounds\, we’ve come together to offer you this spectacular show. Many members of our beloved staff\, including Studio Director Shannon Chipman and ballet teacher Vicki Bergland\, performed in the original Santa Cruz Nutcracker Production. Even more\, they continue to dance and teach to this day. Invite in the holiday spirit and come enjoy Tchaikovsky’s iconic score with our talented dancers\, right in Cabrillo’s Crocker Theater. \nTickets \nEvery year the production grows with new ideas\, choreography\, scenery\, costumes and imagination. Dancers in the Company\, professionals from the bay area and beyond\, alongside dancers from our community each bring their own sparkle. Most dancers in the production train at International Academy of Dance\, home of the Santa Cruz City Ballet. It is always rewarding to see the tiniest gingersnaps\, angels and party guests now dancing principal roles as young adults and pre-professionals\, along with young dancers dreaming about becoming the next Snow Queen. \nWe breathe new life into this timeless classic\, so please join us this December to see the latest rendition of The Nutcracker!
