DESCRIPTION:Marine Mammal Scientist in Training Program\nMonday\, July 24\, 9am – 4pm \nThe Marine Mammal Scientist-in-Training Program is an engaging\, immersive one-week educational course designed for high school students interested in pursuing a career in marine mammal biology and conservation. Through a combination of field and classroom-based experiences using cutting edge methods and technologies\, students have the opportunity to work directly with world-leading marine mammal researchers. We are fortunate to collaborate with these local experts who give their time and expertise to this program solely to train and inspire the next generation of scientists and conservationists to appreciate and safeguard our precious marine resources. \nEach student will have unique opportunities to work side-by-side with expert scientists to study seals\, sea lions\, whales\, and dolphins here in Monterey Bay. Each participant will help collect data to document animal distribution\, feeding and behavioral patterns\, underwater sound\, and gain hands-on experience using specialized marine research technology. \nWe offer full and partial scholarships to students in need as well.

DESCRIPTION:Postpartum Support International\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNEW SUPPORT GROUP!\n\n\n\nPostpartum Psychosis (PPP) is rare. It occurs in approximately 1 to 2 out of every 1\,000 deliveries.  After a PPP survivor’s symptoms have been stabilized\, peer support can be an important tool for recovery. Because PPP occurs less often than other perinatal mood disorders\, survivors can go their whole lives without meeting another PPP survivor.  In response\, PSI has created an online peer-to-peer support group for PPP survivors. All babies have needs and depend on their caregivers\, yet some babies have more needs than others. “High needs baby” is not a medical term or diagnosis\, but it is a term used to describe babies with some of these characteristics: constant crying (for several hours in a row)\, difficult to soothe\, and easily overstimulated. A highly sensitive or high needs baby might not sleep without being held\, might cry for three hours every evening\, or might get restless and frustrated when transitioning from one environment to another. We know that parents of “colicky” or high-needs babies can feel isolated\, exhausted\, and overwhelmed. You are not alone\, and we are here to help. We will provide the supplies for you to paint your own designs on a rock. Tuesday\, June 13\, 1 – 3pm\, Ages 3-18\n \n\n\n\n\nPerler Bead Crafts @ DTN   Perler beads are small\, heat activated beads that you can lay on a mat to create interesting patterns. Then\, after you apply heat\, the beads will fuse together creating your design into a single work. Thursday\, June 22\, 12 – 2pm\, Ages 6-18 \n\n\n\n\n\nGlow in the Dark Bouncy Balls Craft @ Downtown   Using just a few common ingredients you can make your own bouncy balls that glow-in-the-dark! This activity combines art and science in a way that kids of all ages are sure to love!  Thursday\, June 29\, 1- 3pm\, Ages 6-11 \n\n\n\n\nGlitter Jellyfish Craft @ Downtown   Come and make a beautiful Jellyfish Craft. Wednesday\, July 12\, 1 – 2:30pm\, Ages 6-18 \n\n\n\n\nGlass Painting @ Downtown   We will provide the materials to create your own unique painted glass vase or mason jar.  Tuesday\, July 18\, 12 – 2pm\, Ages 6-18\n \n\n\n\n\nLight Up Firefly Craft @ Downtown   We don’t have fireflies here in Santa Cruz\, but you can make your own!
