DESCRIPTION:Postpartum Support International\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNEW SUPPORT GROUP!\n\n\n\nPostpartum Psychosis (PPP) is rare. It occurs in approximately 1 to 2 out of every 1\,000 deliveries.  After a PPP survivor’s symptoms have been stabilized\, peer support can be an important tool for recovery. Because PPP occurs less often than other perinatal mood disorders\, survivors can go their whole lives without meeting another PPP survivor.  In response\, PSI has created an online peer-to-peer support group for PPP survivors. Students experience nature\, art\, and animals in a relaxed\, calming environment. \nFrom this\, Lisa (a Reading Specialist with 25+ years of experience) works with students to build and develop strong reading skills such as: phonemic awareness\, phonics\, fluency\, vocabulary development\, and reading comprehension. \nSince reading is a gateway to accessing information\, students will likely improve in all subject areas. \nIn addition\, their self esteem will begin to soar as they gain confidence with each reading session. \nLastly\, Ziggy’s adorable\, gentleness is just too cute for words. Students will fall in love with him at first sight. At the “Deep Sea Designers” art workshop\, kids will learn about deep sea animals and habitats\, and use them as inspiration to design a communal mural. \nKids will learn about deep sea animals in Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary\, and use them as inspiration to create a communal work of art. \nThe finished piece will be on display at the center through May\, viewable during open hours: Wednesday – Sunday\, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This free event is recommended for children aged 5-10\, but is open to all ages. Registration in advance is required as space is limited. DESCRIPTION:Santa Cruz Math Circle Returns\nSaturdays\, 10am – 12pm\, February 7 through March 28\nFinancial assistance is available. \nCabrillo College\, Building 300 \nThe Santa Cruz Math Circle is a weekly math meeting for students in grades 5th through 8th who love math. \nThe Santa Cruz Math Circle is back! Students in grades 5-8 are invited to join a weekly meet-up for students who love math and problem solving\, hosted by nonprofit the X Academy. Students work with mathematicians\, scientists\, and engineers on challenging topics that go beyond the classroom. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHeld at Cabrillo College in mid-county\, students meet with mathematicians\, scientists and engineers in an informal setting to work on interesting problems or topics in mathematics. The instructors are role models who use math everyday and many have PhDs in math. It engages bright students beyond traditional classroom math\, feeding their love of learning math and challenging them to grow their capabilities. We offer 6 – 8 sessions in the Fall and 6 – 8 sessions in the Spring. \nMath Circles provide a space for students to develop friendships with their intellectual peers and develop confidence in their math identity. \n Financial assistance is available. \nGame Day: We invite 3rd and 4th grade students for games and puzzles (free) accompanied by parents at the same time and location as the Math Circle. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you are interested in volunteering to teach\, assist with teaching or helping with logistics\, contact barbara@xacademy.org

Maybe you have tried before but need a refresher. \nNo matter your experience\, join the City of Santa Cruz Waste Reduction Staff for a workshop all about hot composting! \nIn this workshop\, we will build a compost pile together\, discuss best practices for maintaining it\, and explore strategies for reducing food waste and why it matters. Plus\, enter our raffle to be eligible to win composting accessories! \nFinished compost from a backyard composting system offers a hefty dose of healthy microorganisms and other benefits for your garden and soil. Caring for a compost pile gives you gold for your garden and can contribute to a sense of well-being. \nIf you already have a composting system that could use some attention\, feel free to sign up and bring your questions and photos! We will have time to discuss and learn from each other as a group. The City offers a compost rebate program to get a bin of your own too. Hope to see you there!
