SUMMARY:Jewels in the Garden A Darwinian Natural History of Humming Birds
DESCRIPTION:Jewels in the garden: A Darwinian natural history of humming birds with UCSC Professor Emeritus Bruce Lyon\nSunday\, March 8\, 1-2:30pm \nHorticluture 2 Meeting Hall \nThis presentation promises to be a super fun exploration of hummingbird natural history\, evolution and social behavior full of fascinating scientific information and colorful images of local and exotic hummingbirds from here and abroad. \nThough now officially a Professor Emeritus of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UC Santa Cruz\, we are lucky that Dr. Bruce Lyon has little inclination to stop studying bird ecology and evolution in ‘retirement’! During his rich career teaching and conducting research\, Bruce’s work continues to include the Lyon Lab’s 18+ year-long project studying golden-crowned sparrows at the Arboretum. \nBruce will give his entertaining presentation and slideshow in the Arboretum’s Hort 2 Meeting Hall and then take interested folks outside to one of the Arboretum’s “hummingbird hotspots” for an informal (humming)-birdwatching session and Q&A. \nJoin us for a fun and informative presentation about hummingbirds from both near and far\, followed by a walk to one of the Arboretum’s “hummingbird hotspots.”

SUMMARY:Postpartum Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Postpartum Support International\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNEW SUPPORT GROUP!\n\n\n\nPostpartum Psychosis (PPP) is rare. It occurs in approximately 1 to 2 out of every 1\,000 deliveries.  After a PPP survivor’s symptoms have been stabilized\, peer support can be an important tool for recovery. Because PPP occurs less often than other perinatal mood disorders\, survivors can go their whole lives without meeting another PPP survivor.  In response\, PSI has created an online peer-to-peer support group for PPP survivors. This group is intended for those who are in recovery (no longer experiencing psychosis).   Whether your PPP experience was relatively recent or years ago\, you are welcome to attend our free\, online peer-to-peer support group.\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister here: https://www.postpartum.net/…/psi-online-support-meetings/\nFull Meeting Schedule

DESCRIPTION:Downtown Farmers Market\nWednesdays\, May – Oct 1 – 6pm; Nov – April 1 – 5pm \nThe Downtown Santa Cruz Market runs year-round on Wednesdays\, 1-6pm May through October and 1-5pm November through April. Our largest and oldest market\, it is situated in the heart of Downtown Santa Cruz\, one block off of Pacific Avenue. Established in 1990\, many of the farms that sell here were and remain pillars of the organic and ecological farming movement. This is the place to eat with the seasons! The variety of fruits\, vegetables\, flowers\, pastured meats and other products is swoon worthy. \nThe Downtown Market also spotlights a large variety of up-and-coming\, unique cultural food businesses. This weekly spot may serve up the most diverse selection of ethnic foods in the county including momo\, naan and curry\, Japanese fermented misos\, Eritrean dishes\, crepes\, El Salvadorean pupusas\, traditional Italian cookies\, fish and chips and long-ferment fresh breads. Shopping at the Wednesday market is a wonderful way to support regional responsible farms and small local businesses. Fill your grocery bags! Then sit down for a delightful meal and rest your weary arms. \n

SUMMARY:March is Hummingbird Month at the UCSC Arboretum and Botanical Garden
DESCRIPTION:March is Hummingbird Month at the UCSC Arboretum and Botanical Garden\nMarch 1-31\, Daily 9am-4pm \nThis time of year\, the Arboretum hosts both Anna’s and Allen’s hummingbirds\, the two most common species in Northern California. \n“The density of hummingbirds—the number per area in the Arboretum—is ridiculously high\,” says Bruce Lyon\, professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UCSC. “You can watch them feeding on flowers\, you can watch their courtship\, you can watch them chasing different species. It’s a great opportunity to see some pretty amazing hummingbird biology.” \nIn celebration of this special time of year\, we invite you to visit the garden as much as possible! See our webpage for a schedule of activities and more information about hummingbirds and the abundance of plants at the Arboretum that attract them. \nWe will also feature hummingbird merchandise and hummingbird-attracting plants at our gift shop and nursery. Visit Norrie’s Gift & Garden Shop\, Tuesdays thru Sundays from 10 – 4. For more information go to https://arboretum.ucsc.edu/garden-shop/ \nAll events are free with paid admission: Adults: $10\, Seniors $8 and Youth 4-17 $5. Rain cancels outdoor activities. \nCurrent members are always free and enjoy other great benefits year-round! Join Today at https://arboretum.ucsc.edu/get-involved/join-us/
