SUMMARY:Author Shares Adoption Story at the Capitola Library
DESCRIPTION:Author Shares Adoption Story at the Capitola Library\nSaturday\, November 22\, 10:30am – 12pm \nSanta Cruz Public Libraries (SCPL) is pleased to welcome author Lisa Crawford Watson to the Capitola Branch Library on Saturday\, November 22\, from 10:30AM-12:00PM to share her memoir\, What We Wished For: An Adoption Story. \nReleased in October 2024\, What We Wished For: An Adoption Story shares a woman’s quest to build a loving family. It is a tale of courage\, perseverance\, and what remains when things don’t go as imagined. This memoir speaks to anyone who has ever struggled with a life-altering decision\, one from which there is no turning back. When infant twins in need of a permanent\, stable home come into her life\, she falls in love with them and knows what she must do. A twin herself\, Lisa Crawford Watson believes she has the insight required to mother twins. Determined not to give up\, Lisa overcomes her doubts and adopts the sisters out of foster care. However\, she faces one hardship after another and quickly learns that raising premature babies born with drugs and alcohol in their systems is a feat of sacrifice and unpredictability. \n“As a storyteller\, I am intrigued\, fascinated\, enlightened\, motivated\, humbled by the stories people share with me. Yet I didn’t know if I had the courage to tell my own story.” said Crawford Watson. \nLisa Crawford Watson has been a freelance writer on the Monterey Peninsula for more than 30 years and has profiled hundreds of notable citizens. She has written weekly articles for the Monterey Herald and several books\, including “Legendary Locals of Carmel-by-the-Sea” and taught classes at Monterey Peninsula College and California State University Monterey Bay. \nRegistration is recommended\, and walk-ins are welcome. SUMMARY:READ program with Ziggy the mini
DESCRIPTION:READ program with Ziggy the mini\nOne hour Sessions\, 1pm and 2pm\, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons\, beginning  November 30 and December 1\n \nREAD program (Reading Equine Art Duo) with Ziggy the mini was designed to strengthen reading skills in a fun\, creative way. Students experience nature\, art\, and animals in a relaxed\, calming environment. \nFrom this\, Lisa (a Reading Specialist with 25+ years of experience) works with students to build and develop strong reading skills such as: phonemic awareness\, phonics\, fluency\, vocabulary development\, and reading comprehension. \nSince reading is a gateway to accessing information\, students will likely improve in all subject areas. \nIn addition\, their self esteem will begin to soar as they gain confidence with each reading session. \nLastly\, Ziggy’s adorable\, gentleness is just too cute for words. Students will fall in love with him at first sight. So\, come join the fun and learn is a holistic way with Ziggy and Lisa 🙂 \n\nWhere: READ program is currently hosted at a ranch in Watsonville.  Also we will be visiting libraries\, schools\, hospitals\, and nursing homes soon!  Ziggy Stardust is our dwarf miniature horse and he loves reading with all age levels.     \nLisa is also available to visit your horse(s) and READ with them!  This social/mental stimulation provides an overall sense of well-being.  They love it; see video How tab for evidence.  😉 \n\n\n\n\nWhen: For availability\, more information and directions\, text Lisa at (831) 227-9847

SUMMARY:Live Oak Farmers Market
DESCRIPTION:Live Oak Farmers Market\nSundays 9am – 1pm year round \nStarted in 2000\, Live Oak Farmers Market is a neighborhood market has grown to be a weekly event that is loved by the communities of Live Oak\, Pleasure Point and Capitola. A decade has past since this market became year round and here you will find an excellent selection of organic produce from local farms\, tree ripened fruits\, dried fruit and nuts\, fresh bread\, pastries\, seafood\, pasture-raised organic meats and more. The market is also the epicenter of the clean food movement\, showcasing amazing Sunday brunch offerings like traditional Michoacan Mexican dishes\, dumplings\, crepes and artisan hand pies. This is your Sunday destination. \n  \nMarket Match\nMarket Match offers farmers’ market customers a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10 on their CalFresh (food stamp) cards at the Live Oak Market. If a customer swipes their CalFresh card for seven dollars\, they get seven dollars in Market Match tokens for free. Swipe $10\, you get $10. The goal of this project is to encourage CalFresh (EBT/SNAP) recipients to take advantage of fresh\, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. By offering an incentive that lowers the price of fresh produce\, we are helping shoppers stretch their food dollars while keeping their families healthy. SCCFM will be offering the Market Match program for the 2020 season. Locate the information booth and the market manager to redeem EBT coins and to participate in the Market Match Program.
