Join the Nature Club to explore mammals inhabiting Moore Creek Preserve on March 16th at 10am. Explore the wonders of nature and make new friends along the way. \nPhoto: Chris Soriano \nRegister now and secure your spot! \nKick off the beginning of spring with an awesome visit to the Moore Creek Preserve\, exploring different communities found in one of our best local habitats. Deer\, coyotes\, rabbits\, and much more call this place home and we will learn all about the adaptations that they need to survive in this environment. \nLocation: Moore Creek Preserve – Meder St\nAges: 6th-8th grade\nFees: $10 General |$ 5 Members\nIf you are not a Member yet\, explore Museum Membership here. \nNature Club takes young explorers (6th-8th Grade) into local habitats to learn about the amazing living world around us while making discoveries along the way. Programs are led by Museum staff with kids dropped off at rotating locations\, including local parks\, open spaces\, and of course at the Museum! Exploration and activities help kids learn more about nature through observation and experience while developing a deeper connection to nature and making new friends. \nWhat to Expect\nPrograms run from 10:00 a.m -12:30 p.m. The Museum does not provide transportation to offsite meeting spots\, and participants should be dropped off and picked up by parents/guardians. DESCRIPTION:Postpartum Support International\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNEW SUPPORT GROUP!\n\n\n\nPostpartum Psychosis (PPP) is rare. It occurs in approximately 1 to 2 out of every 1\,000 deliveries.  After a PPP survivor’s symptoms have been stabilized\, peer support can be an important tool for recovery. Because PPP occurs less often than other perinatal mood disorders\, survivors can go their whole lives without meeting another PPP survivor.  In response\, PSI has created an online peer-to-peer support group for PPP survivors. Join our Wildland Fire Academy! \nThe Santa Cruz COE is pleased to provide two upcoming sessions of a new Wildland Fire Academy\, in partnership with CAL FIRE and the California Conservation Corps. \nParticipants can complete trainings and receive certification for an entry-level firefighter position\, building skills including use of personal protective equipment\, deploying a fire shelter\, building a secure fire line\, mop up and patrol of fire areas\, and improving property safety. Must be 18 or older to participate \nFIND OUT MORE \n\n\n\n\nThe Santa Cruz County Office of Education is proud to offer the opportunity to participate in our Wildland Fire Academy. On Screen is a five-documentary film series focusing on the themes behind our acronym BLACK: Building Legacies of Access in Communities of Kinship. \nStarting this month through June\, screenings will be the 3rd Tuesday at the Resource Center for Nonviolence and the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Capitola Branch Library. Doors open at 6:15\, screenings begin at 6:30. \nWhose Streets? is February’s film. Watch the trailer here . Each screening will be followed by a discussion and/or Q&A. Stay tuned! \nABOUT THE FILM When unarmed black teenager Michael Brown was killed by a white police officer in Ferguson\, Missouri\, and left lying in the street for hours\, it marked a breaking point for the residents of the St. Louis area and beyond. Told by the local residents and activists on the front lines fighting for justice\, equality and an end to police brutality\, Whose Streets? is an unflinching look at the Ferguson uprising and the movement that followed. \nThe series continues with: March 20\, Tell Them We Are Rising. The Story of Black Colleges and Universities explores the pivotal role historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) have played over the course of 150 years. \nApril 17\, Against All Odds: The Fight for The Black Middle Class. Acclaimed journalist Bob Herbert asks\, “Have Black Americans had a fair shot at the American dream?” He probes the harsh and often brutal discrimination that has made it extremely difficult for African-Americans to establish a middle-class standard of living\, while also exploring the often heroic efforts of Black families to pursue the American Dream in the face of unrelenting barriers. \nMay 22\, The Taking of Harris Neck: 80 years of Injustice for the Gullah People. The stunning marshlands of Harris Neck\, Georgia have a tragic history. In 1942\, the US government took 2687 acres of land inhabited by descendants of freed slaves to build an airbase. The government promised to give the land back after the war. Now 80 years later the community is still fighting to get their land back. The Taking of Harris Neck tells a story of trauma and racism – and the perseverance to overcome against all odds. \nJune 19\, Decendent follows decendents of the survivors from the Clotilda\, the last ship that carried enslaved Africans to the United States\, as they reclaim their story.
