Our group is here to provide support and connection to parents as we know losing a baby can be an isolating and devastating experience. This group is led by trained peer facilitators who have also experienced infant loss.< \nOur groups are 90 minutes (1.5 hours) in length. The first ~30 minutes is providing information\, education\, and establishing group guidelines. The next ~60 minutes is “talk time\,” in which group members share and talk with each other. Students in grades 5-8 are invited to join a weekly meet-up for students who love math and problem solving\, hosted by nonprofit the X Academy. Students work with mathematicians\, scientists\, and engineers on challenging topics that go beyond the classroom. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHeld at Cabrillo College in mid-county\, students meet with mathematicians\, scientists and engineers in an informal setting to work on interesting problems or topics in mathematics. The instructors are role models who use math everyday and many have PhDs in math. It engages bright students beyond traditional classroom math\, feeding their love of learning math and challenging them to grow their capabilities. DESCRIPTION:Jewels in the garden: A Darwinian natural history of humming birds with UCSC Professor Emeritus Bruce Lyon\nSunday\, March 8\, 1-2:30pm \nHorticluture 2 Meeting Hall \nThis presentation promises to be a super fun exploration of hummingbird natural history\, evolution and social behavior full of fascinating scientific information and colorful images of local and exotic hummingbirds from here and abroad. \nThough now officially a Professor Emeritus of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UC Santa Cruz\, we are lucky that Dr. Bruce Lyon has little inclination to stop studying bird ecology and evolution in ‘retirement’! During his rich career teaching and conducting research\, Bruce’s work continues to include the Lyon Lab’s 18+ year-long project studying golden-crowned sparrows at the Arboretum. \nBruce will give his entertaining presentation and slideshow in the Arboretum’s Hort 2 Meeting Hall and then take interested folks outside to one of the Arboretum’s “hummingbird hotspots” for an informal (humming)-birdwatching session and Q&A. \nJoin us for a fun and informative presentation about hummingbirds from both near and far\, followed by a walk to one of the Arboretum’s “hummingbird hotspots.”

Students experience nature\, art\, and animals in a relaxed\, calming environment. \nFrom this\, Lisa (a Reading Specialist with 25+ years of experience) works with students to build and develop strong reading skills such as: phonemic awareness\, phonics\, fluency\, vocabulary development\, and reading comprehension. \nSince reading is a gateway to accessing information\, students will likely improve in all subject areas. \nIn addition\, their self esteem will begin to soar as they gain confidence with each reading session. \nLastly\, Ziggy’s adorable\, gentleness is just too cute for words. Students will fall in love with him at first sight.
