SUMMARY:Explore Año Nuevo with a Docent
DESCRIPTION:Explore Año Nuevo with a Docent\nCancelled: Check website: https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=27613\nDecember 15 – March 31\nThe park offers guided walks led by volunteer docent naturalist to see the northern elephant seals in their natural habitat inside the Año Nuevo Coast Natural Preserve. Año Nuevo docents go through extensive training and are highly knowledgeable in the natural and cultural history of the park. Elephant seal acivities and population counts can vary widely throughout the guided walk season. \nGeneral Information\nGuided walks begin December 15 and continue every day until March 31 with exceptions on December 25 (Christmas) and January 31-February 1 for an annual fundraising event\, Seal Adventure. \nDuring the guided walk season\, walks are offered daily for families\, individuals\, or groups. Children age 17 and under require one adult chaperone for each 10 children. Each walk has a capacity of 15 people\, including chaperones. \nThe trail to see the elephant seals includes a 3-4 mile hike and is considered moderate with varied terrain including sand dunes. \nGuided walks run 2.5 hours from start to finish and operate daily from early morning to mid-afternoon\, rain or shine. \n $7.00 + $3.99 reservation fee for public walks. Bring water for drinking on the trail.\nCameras and photography are permitted. Although there are no restrictions on flashes\, photographers are restricted to stay with the guided walk group and cannot leave. Between those middle-of-the-night feeds and milestone questions\, it’s natural to feel both overwhelmed and amazed—sometimes in the same moment. While you’re marveling at your little one’s daily discoveries\, you might also be wondering if you’re doing enough\, or wishing for a community that truly gets what this journey is like. That’s exactly why we created The Parent Nest: A guided play & connection series\n \nCreated specifically for infants and toddlers (from sitting age to 18 months)\, this four-week series takes place in the serene morning hours before the museum opens. In this distraction-free setting\, your little explorer can safely investigate their world while you connect with other parents who understand exactly what this stage of life is like. \nEach 45-minute session nurtures your child’s natural development through research-backed activities that: \n\nBuild Neural Pathways Through Movement: As babies roll\, crawl\, and reach\, they’re not just exercising—they’re forming crucial brain connections that support physical coordination and spatial awareness.\n\nDevelop Pre-Language Skills: Our musical activities introduce rhythm\, repetition\, and simple signs\, laying the groundwork for communication long before first words appear. \n\n\nEnhance Sensory Processing: From our “Building Beginnings” exploration to “Splish Splash Discovery” play\, each tactile experience helps your little one understand their world through touch\, sight\, sound\, and movement. \n\n\nFoster Social-Emotional Growth: Through guided interactions\, babies learn early social cues while parents discover ways to support emotional development during daily routines. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a four-week play-based program designed to support your baby’s development while building connection with other caregivers.\n\n\n\nFind your community of support: Early Development Classes in a Museum Setting\n\n\n\nFree for members!\nFree Children Under 12 Months\n$35 – Non-members per session (We will email you a link to pay) \nThank you to Musical Me for sponsoring our program.

Travel to the land of sweets and meet the Sugar Plum Fairy! \nThere’s something for everyone in this performance\, with an all-age cast! We hope to see you there 🙂 \n\n\n\n\nEvery year\, Santa Cruz City Ballet (at the International Academy of Dance) puts on a premier Nutcracker performance at Cabrillo’s Crocker Theater. And every year\, the stage sparkles with the magic of our cast and crew\, as dancers from ages 4 to adult light up the stage. This year Nutcracker: Experience the Magic will be happening on December 20th and 21st\, 2025. Tickets go on sale in November. \nHistory of the Nutcracker Ballet\nThe Nutcracker\, Russian Shchelkunchik\, is a ballet by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The last of his three ballets\, it was first performed in December 1892. Every year\, we recreate this timeless classic in Santa Cruz with our Nutcracker Performance. \nThe story of The Nutcracker is loosely based on the E.T.A. Hoffmann fantasy story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King\, about a girl who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King. Hoffmann’s story is darker and more troubling than the version that reached the stage; the Imperial Russian Ballet choreographer Marius Petipa chose to follow a light adaptation of the story written by Alexandre Dumas père. \nTickets $55 – $65
