Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective 1863\, there was difficulty getting it implemented in places that were still under Confederate control.  When some 200 Union troops came to Galveston Bay\, Texas\, and announced that the 250\,000 enslaved blacks were liberated by executive decree. While at camp the girls have the chance to learn new things and become good team players while gaining leadership skills. They get to participate in fun crafts and activities such as: cooking\, hiking\, creek walking\, and so much more! \nNot a Girl Scout? Not a problem! Join us! \nWe hope that each girl leaves our camp with a stronger sense of self and more confidence in her abilities. \nAt Henry Cowell Day Camp\, we believe in creating a safe and inclusive environment for all campers and volunteers.
