SUMMARY:Postpartum Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Postpartum Support International\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNEW SUPPORT GROUP!\n\n\n\nPostpartum Psychosis (PPP) is rare. It occurs in approximately 1 to 2 out of every 1\,000 deliveries.  After a PPP survivor’s symptoms have been stabilized\, peer support can be an important tool for recovery. Because PPP occurs less often than other perinatal mood disorders\, survivors can go their whole lives without meeting another PPP survivor.  In response\, PSI has created an online peer-to-peer support group for PPP survivors. This group is intended for those who are in recovery (no longer experiencing psychosis).   Whether your PPP experience was relatively recent or years ago\, you are welcome to attend our free\, online peer-to-peer support group.\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister here: https://www.postpartum.net/…/psi-online-support-meetings/\nFull Meeting Schedule

SUMMARY:Virtual Author Talk with Smithsonian Biologist Jay Falk
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Author Talk with Smithsonian Biologist Jay Falk\nTuesday\, August 5\, 11am – 12pm \n\nThe Stories\, Science\, and History of Birds with Smithsonian Biologist Jay Falk \nDelve into the fascinating world of birds through astonishing photography and clear explanations in this absorbing global guide\, The Bird Book: The Stories\, Science\, and History of Birds. \nBirds are dinosaurs with a history going back millions of years. Our fascination with them runs deep in history\, and our close association is reflected in creation stories\, myths\, legends\, songs\, and children’s stories. \n This book and presentation explore: \n\nBoth the natural history of birds and that deep cultural connection. From their evolution and anatomy to their behavior and diversity.\n\n\nHawks\, finches\, swans\, or birds of paradise\, moving the focus away from a predictable species-by-species account and allowing for truly global coverage.\n\n\nThe bold nature of European Robins and why they are associated with Christmas; the mythical Phoenix\, which rises from the ashes; and learn about eagles\, from their hunting prowess to their myriads of stories and symbolism.\n\nJoin the conversation and register at https://libraryc.org/santacruzpl/83533. \nAbout the Author: Dr. Jay Jinsing Falk is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and the University of Colorado. He is an evolutionary biologist and behavioral ecologist fascinated by the diversity that can be found within species\, especially in sexual traits. During his PhD\, he began studying White-necked Jacobin hummingbirds as a STRI Short-Term Fellow\, and later as a Smithsonian Predoctoral Fellow. His findings\, that some females of this species look like males while others do not\, has become the cornerstone of his research program. He is inspired by the dizzying array of feather coloration that can be found in hummingbirds. After completing his PhD at Cornell University\, he moved to the University of Washington to study hummingbird movement and metabolism. Now at the University of Colorado\, he is investigating the genetics and development of feather coloration. Jay currently lives in Gamboa\, Panamá\, where he studies the hummingbirds that visit the feeders at his house on the edge of the forest. \nFor upcoming author talks\, visit https://libraryc.org/santacruzpl/upcoming. \nSCPL’s Virtual Author Talks are made possible by the Friends of the Capitola Library.

DESCRIPTION:Downtown Farmers Market\nWednesdays\, May – Oct 1 – 6pm; Nov – April 1 – 5pm \nThe Downtown Santa Cruz Market runs year-round on Wednesdays\, 1-6pm May through October and 1-5pm November through April. Our largest and oldest market\, it is situated in the heart of Downtown Santa Cruz\, one block off of Pacific Avenue. Established in 1990\, many of the farms that sell here were and remain pillars of the organic and ecological farming movement. This is the place to eat with the seasons! The variety of fruits\, vegetables\, flowers\, pastured meats and other products is swoon worthy. \nThe Downtown Market also spotlights a large variety of up-and-coming\, unique cultural food businesses. This weekly spot may serve up the most diverse selection of ethnic foods in the county including momo\, naan and curry\, Japanese fermented misos\, Eritrean dishes\, crepes\, El Salvadorean pupusas\, traditional Italian cookies\, fish and chips and long-ferment fresh breads. Shopping at the Wednesday market is a wonderful way to support regional responsible farms and small local businesses. Fill your grocery bags! Then sit down for a delightful meal and rest your weary arms. \n

DESCRIPTION:Mah Jongg Club – Hong Kong Style\n\nThursdays\,  2 – 4pm\, through December 18 \nWelcome players of all levels – the experienced and the newly curious! \nConnect with fellow Mahjong enthusiasts and build a supportive community. Share experiences\, exchange tips\, and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow learners. \nI host a Beginner’s Learning Table EVERY week\, instructing in Hong Kong Style. I will take you through the basics of the tiles and setup\, followed by a game with tiles face up as we put what we’ve learned into practice. You can stay at the Beginner’s table for as long as you need.  Alternatively\, we have an additional instructor in Chinese Mah Jongg with British rules if you find you prefer that style instead.   \nWe have tile sets to choose from or you may bring your own. \nAll are welcome to play\, however please be mindful and respectful that there are at least 40 known variants of this game.  If you would like to play American or Traditional Chinese\, or other variants\, you are welcome to do so\, but you may need to be patient and instruct folks on how to play your way. Sometimes modifications will be needed\, at the beginning of each game ask the table what rules to play by and be courteous and kind to one another.

SUMMARY:Parent Nest A Guided Play and Connection Series
DESCRIPTION:Parent Nest A Guided Play and Connection Series\nFridays 10am\, August 1 – November 21\nSession 1 August 8\, 15\, 22\, 29th\nSession 2 September 5\, 12\, 19\, 26\nSession 3 October 3\, 10\, 17\, 24th\nSession 4 October 31st\, November 7\, 14\, 21st \nFall cohorts now enrolling… Parenting is better together! \nIf those early parenting days feel like a mix of wonder and worry\, you’re not alone. Between those middle-of-the-night feeds and milestone questions\, it’s natural to feel both overwhelmed and amazed—sometimes in the same moment. While you’re marveling at your little one’s daily discoveries\, you might also be wondering if you’re doing enough\, or wishing for a community that truly gets what this journey is like. That’s exactly why we created The Parent Nest: A guided play & connection series\n \nCreated specifically for infants and toddlers (from sitting age to 18 months)\, this four-week series takes place in the serene morning hours before the museum opens. In this distraction-free setting\, your little explorer can safely investigate their world while you connect with other parents who understand exactly what this stage of life is like. \nEach 45-minute session nurtures your child’s natural development through research-backed activities that: \n\nBuild Neural Pathways Through Movement: As babies roll\, crawl\, and reach\, they’re not just exercising—they’re forming crucial brain connections that support physical coordination and spatial awareness.\n\nDevelop Pre-Language Skills: Our musical activities introduce rhythm\, repetition\, and simple signs\, laying the groundwork for communication long before first words appear. \n\n\nEnhance Sensory Processing: From our “Building Beginnings” exploration to “Splish Splash Discovery” play\, each tactile experience helps your little one understand their world through touch\, sight\, sound\, and movement. \n\n\nFoster Social-Emotional Growth: Through guided interactions\, babies learn early social cues while parents discover ways to support emotional development during daily routines. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a four-week play-based program designed to support your baby’s development while building connection with other caregivers.\n\n\n\nFind your community of support: Early Development Classes in a Museum Setting\n\n\n\nFree for members!\nFree Children Under 12 Months\n$35 – Non-members per session (We will email you a link to pay) \nThank you to Musical Me for sponsoring our program.
