It was originally built in 1914 as a two-room county jailhouse in Davenport\, California; and now its open to the public! \nLocated in the old whaling village of Davenport\, it was decommissioned in 1936. Read more about its history here! \nDavenport Jail is currently hosting a year-long residency featuring Watsonville-based artist Joshua Moreno. Over the course of 365 days\, Moreno will trace the movement of light through the decommissioned jail. Students experience nature\, art\, and animals in a relaxed\, calming environment. \nFrom this\, Lisa (a Reading Specialist with 25+ years of experience) works with students to build and develop strong reading skills such as: phonemic awareness\, phonics\, fluency\, vocabulary development\, and reading comprehension. \nSince reading is a gateway to accessing information\, students will likely improve in all subject areas. \nIn addition\, their self esteem will begin to soar as they gain confidence with each reading session. \nLastly\, Ziggy’s adorable\, gentleness is just too cute for words. Students will fall in love with him at first sight.
