SUMMARY:Santa Cruz Shakespeare's The Importance of Being Earnest
DESCRIPTION:Santa Cruz Shakespeare’s The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde\nJuly 14 – September 7\, with Opening Night on July 19 \nSanta Cruz Shakespeare\, a nationally recognized professional theater company in Santa Cruz County with deep local roots that go back more than 40 years\, invites you to experience Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest\, under the trees and stars of the Audrey Stanley Grove in Santa Cruz’s DeLaveaga Park this summer. \nOscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest has not been done in the 42-year history of Santa Cruz Shakespeare. It is one of the greatest comedies ever written\, filled with some of the sharpest wit in the English language. The most iconic figure of this masterpiece is the formidable Lady Bracknell; obsessed with tradition and propriety\, she cannot countenance her daughter Gwendolyn’s love of our titular Earnest. It’s not his money she objects to\, of which he has plenty\, but his bloodline: he has seemingly\, and famously\, descended from a HANDBAG. At least\, that’s where he was discovered as an orphan. The young strain and contrive against their elder’s conservatism; through \nfantasy\, imagination\, and so much wit\, they will reshape the world; redefining\, and renaming\, love’s conventions. \nThe Importance of Being Earnest runs July 14-September 7\, with Opening Night on July 19. \nPurchase tickets after May 1 and get more information at santacruzshakespeare.org/season-2024 \nSeasonal box office hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 12p.m. to 4p.m. beginning June 1. Call 831-460-6399. \n  \nAbout Santa Cruz Shakespeare – Featuring professional actors from around the country and inspired by deep local roots that go back more than 40 years\, Santa Cruz Shakespeare stages bold productions of the plays of Shakespeare and other great playwrights that stimulate audiences’ senses and spark their imagination. SUMMARY:Dungeons and Dragons for Adults 18+
DESCRIPTION:Dungeons and Dragons for Adults 18+\n2nd & 4th Saturdays\, 12-5pm\, beginning May 25\n\n\nFor adults 18+\, step into the realm of Dungeons & Dragons! Whether you’re a newbie or a veteran adventurer\, join us every 2nd and 4th Saturday for an epic afternoon of storytelling.\n\nBe a bard\, wizard\, or barbarian\, and tackle creative challenges with new friends. No experience needed\, just your creativity!\n\nLet the adventure begin!\n\nNo prior experience is necessary. This program is for adults 18+. \nWhat is Dungeons and Dragons?  \nD&D is one of many tabletop role-playing games\, in which players create and control fictional characters within a shared imaginary world. A Game Master guides the story and sets the scene\, while the players make decisions for their characters\, rolling dice to determine outcomes. TTRPGs encourage creativity\, teamwork\, and storytelling as players collaborate to overcome challenges and complete quests. \nModern D&D has veered away from the combat-heavy game it used to be. While it’s still possible to spend hours attacking monsters and finding loot\, many groups now tell stories of mystery\, intrigue\, horror\, or whimsy. \nWho are the game masters?  \nThis event is organized by Jeltje van Baren (yinnah@yahoo.com)\, who learned to play a few years ago and has been creating games for new players ever since. She will be assisted by a rotating group of diverse GMs from the local TTRPG community\, all of whom are used to patiently explaining the rules and keeping the game fun for everyone. \n\nhttps://lDungeons and Dragons for Adults 18+oom.ly/v5N-5J0
