SUMMARY:Talking to Neurodivergent Kids About Sex
DESCRIPTION:Talking to Neurodivergent Kids About Sex\nTuesdays 1 – 2:30pm\, July 11\, 18 & 25 \nStarts next week! I’m excited to be partnering with my friend and respected sex educator Amy Lang to bring our community a series of 3 classes especially for parents and caregivers of differently wired kids ages nine to twelve. \nAmy is on a mission to help every kid grow up to be a whole and healthy adult; she helps parents learn how how to talk to neurodivergent kids about sex  i.e. to have open and effective talks about sexuality\, love and relationships. \nShe knows how stressful getting navigating these conversations can be (especially as many of us had a not-so-great example of how to do it and are worried about doing it “right” — right age\, stage\, words\, timing). She also recognizes that there are additional considerations for parents raising neurodivergent kids. \nSo Amy has tailored this series for our Tilt Parenting community\, so you’ll be learning with other parents and caregivers going through similar things as you. \nThe big goal? You’ll come away with the confidence to be your kids go-to birds and bees source. \nGet all the details and register here: https://tiltparenting.com/SexEd \n\nThis special series is specifically tailored for the Tilt Parenting community\, and you’ll be learning with like-minded people (which is always the best)! Amy will be talking with the Tilt community about: \n\n\n\n\nWhat They Need to Know ASAP \n\nHow to get the talks started (or re-started)\nWhat neurodivergent kids need to know by 6th grade\nHow to avoid giving too much information\nTips for making the talks easy\, fun and actually happen\n\nPuberty Prep for Parents\n \n\nWhat’s happening to their bodies and their heads\nHow to navigate their new (and sometimes challenging) behaviors\nWho they prefer to talk to about this time of life\nHow to be their supporter and advocate\n\nHow to Keep Your Child Safer Online \n\nWhy you need to talk about online safety\nHow to talk about pornography (before they see it)\nWhat to say and how to handle it if they’ve seen it\nWhy monitoring and filtering are so important\nSimple\, low-tech things you can do to keep your kids safer online\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT AMY LANG \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmy Lang\, MA has been a sexual health educator for over 25 years. With her lively\, engaging and down-to-earth style she helps parents become their kid’s go-to birds and bees source. Amy’s books\, online solutions center and podcast show parents that talking about sexuality doesn’t need to be totally uncomfortable and really can be fun. \nShe also provides childhood sexual development and sexual abuse prevention training for early childhood and youth serving organizations. Amy is still married to her first husband and they are getting the hang of parenting their recently launched man-child. She lives in Seattle WA and you can learn more about her work at BirdsAndBeesAndKids.com \n\nSchedule of live events:\nTuesday\, July 11th\, 1:00 pm  – What Neurodivergent Kids Need to Know ASAP\nTuesday\, July 18th\, 1:00 pm – Puberty Prep for PARENTS of Neurodivergent Kids\nTuesday\, July 25th\, 1:00 pm  – How to Keep Neurodivergent Kids Safer Online\n\nWhat else you need to know:\nThe classes are recorded and include tons of resources\nFull price is $149\, but Amy is offering to our community for $99 — Use code DEBBIE at checkout to get your $50 off

SUMMARY:Naturally Creative Writing in Partnership with Nature
DESCRIPTION:Naturally Creative Writing in Partnership with Nature\nTuesday\, July 11\, 3 – 6 pm \nAre you ready to feel more connected with nature and more creative? Would you like to write with more ease and joy? \nThis class will explore how connecting with nature inspires our writing\, and how writing can lead us into a deep and nourishing connection with nature. \nTogether we’ll experience easy and enjoyable ways to immerse in nature\, get our pens moving\, and tap into natural creativity. Through a series of gentle nature awareness and writing practices\, we will open to receive inspiration from tall redwoods\, lush ferns\, and the flowing creek. We’ll discover how writing not just about but with the natural world frees up our creativity and takes us to wonderful and surprising places. Sharing writing will be invited but not required. Expect to leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated\, with some new writing that you love and tools to help you draw on nature for inspiration and support wherever you are. This is a gentle\, experiential program—not a vigorous hike. We will walk about half a mile and spend more time sitting than walking. Most of the activities will be done near the creek. \nClass size is limited\, advance registration required. Class meets at the parking lot at the main entrance to Fall Creek. Note that there are no restrooms in this park. Those who register will receive more detailed directions and information via email. \nJoin us to discover a direct and scenic path to natural creativity! \nFall Creek Unit of Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park ~ Registration Fee: $40 \nRegister mow: https://www.mountainparks.org/redwood-rx/classes/naturally-creative-writing-in-partnership-with-nature

SUMMARY:Nature Journal Studio
DESCRIPTION:Nature Journal Studio\n2nd Wednesdaysof the month\,  6:30 – 8pm \nNature journaling can help us view the natural world with new perspectives\, learn about our surroundings\, and see the extraordinary in the ordinary.  During monthly Nature Journal Studio sessions at the Museum\, Melinda Nakagawa will guide you through a topic as we practice skills in a group setting and share our learning with others. We will develop observation skills and awareness of nature\, improve sketching skills\, and practice strategies to bring the 3-dimensional world onto the page. Rather than an art class\, nature journaling is about observation\, curiosity\, wonder\, and honing these abilities.\n\nFree with Admission Register\n\nSign-up for other Nature Journal Studio events.\n\n*Free for Members and Youth under 18 | $4 General | $2 Students and Seniors \n\nAbout Melinda Nakagawa\nMelinda Nakagawa is a biologist\, naturalist\, and educator with a passion and skill for connecting people to nature. She founded Spark in Nature to guide participants to cultivate a deeper relationship with the natural world\, slowing down to nature’s pace and seeing rather than just looking at the world.  With an approach that bridges nature\, art\, and heart\, she welcomes all people regardless of their skill level or background. Through her gentle guidance\, hundreds of participants have awakened their spark of curiosity\, sense of wonder\, and connection to the natural world.  Melinda has partnered with local institutions such as the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium and Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History to lead educator trainings on nature journaling. She leads the Monterey Bay Nature Journal Club’s free online Sunday sessions.  She has an M.S. degree in Marine Science\, and has also worked as a naturalist guide\, floral designer\, and wildlife rehabilitator. For the past two decades Melinda has kept nature journals and continues to learn more from nature with each journal she fills.\n

SUMMARY:Santa Cruz Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew
DESCRIPTION:Santa Cruz Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew\nJuly and August 2023 \nJoin Santa Cruz Shakespeare in its beautiful outdoor theater under the trees in The Audrey Stanley Grove at DeLaveaga Park in Santa Cruz for its 2023 Summer Festival and its 10th anniversary of thrilling and imaginative theater. \nIn one of Shakespeare’s most raucous comedies\, The Taming of the Shrew\, characters struggle against the roles they have been prescribed by gender\, class\, or age. While the results of these struggles provide some of the most hilarious moments in the canon\, they also leave us with unsettling questions about the human cost of maintaining the status quo. Thorny\, funny and deeply human\, Kate and Petruchio are two of Shakespeare’s most fascinating characters. Out of place because of their honesty in a world of deception\, can these two broken people find happiness where they least expect it? \nJoin us as we explore Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew with humor and grace\, and discover the deeply complex characters at the story’s heart as they journey to find love. \nOther productions in Santa Cruz Shakespeare’s 2023 Summer Festival include Shakespeare’s King Lear\, and The Book of Will by Lauren Gunderson. Learn more at santacruzshakespeare.org. \nTickets on Sale May 1\, 2023. Don’t miss this memorable and delightful experience in one of Santa Cruz’s most majestic settings!
