DESCRIPTION:Are you considering contraceptives for the first time or looking for alternatives to your current method? This workshop explores the most common contraceptive options with special attention to choosing the method that is right for you. We’ll cover the many different kinds of hormonal contraception (oral\, injectable\, insertable\, and transdermal)\, IUDs\, condoms and other barrier devices\, and the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM). We will also talk about how emergency contraception (the “morning after” pill) works\, and when it is and is not a good option for emergency contraception. This session welcomes folx of ALL genders and bodies ages 12 and up. \nThis is the final event in our comprehensive and inclusive workshop series led by Dr. Megan McNamara\, instructor in the Sociology Department and an affiliate with the Center for Innovations in Teaching and Learning and UCSC’s Institute for Social Transformation. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the sexual and reproductive body in a supportive and educational environment.

Join our Wildland Fire Academy! \nThe Santa Cruz COE is pleased to provide two upcoming sessions of a new Wildland Fire Academy\, in partnership with CAL FIRE and the California Conservation Corps. \nParticipants can complete trainings and receive certification for an entry-level firefighter position\, building skills including use of personal protective equipment\, deploying a fire shelter\, building a secure fire line\, mop up and patrol of fire areas\, and improving property safety. Must be 18 or older to participate \nFIND OUT MORE \n\n\n\n\nThe Santa Cruz County Office of Education is proud to offer the opportunity to participate in our Wildland Fire Academy. DESCRIPTION:Watsonville Reads\nWatsonville Reads is a community engagement program that aims to bring people together through the shared reading experience of books tied to a particular theme. This year’s Watsonville Reads theme is “Bringing Awareness to Japanese and Japanese Americans History\, Culture and Heritage”. Watsonville Reads will feature book discussions\, craft-making programs and writing workshops. \nWe have selected two books that are representative of our selected theme and are intended to inspire and foster lively discussions: \n“The Buddha in the Attic” by Julie Otsuka \n“Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” by Jamie Ford. \nWe have the books available in English in our collection as individual copies at both the Main and Freedom Libraries or as part of our book club kits at the Main Library. \n~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ \nWatsonville Reads es un programa de participación comunitaria que tiene como objetivo unir a la gente a través de la experiencia compartida sobre la lectura relacionada con un tema en particular.
