DESCRIPTION:West African kora presented by Sean Gaskell\nThursday\, March 21\, 4:30 – 5:30pm \nPerformance and educational demonstration featuring the West African kora. \nSean Gaskell features songs on the kora- a 21 stringed West African harp. As a student of the instrument\, he studied under the instruction of Moriba Kuyateh and the late Malamini Jobarteh at their home in Brikama\, Gambia\, over multiple extensive visits. \nThe kora is traditionally played by oral historians known as Griots. Many songs featured on the kora preserve an 800 year history dating back to the founding of the Mande empire. Gaskell has presented adult\, youth and family programs at over 350 libraries and a multitude of k-12 schools\, colleges\, universities and assisted living facilities in the United States and Canada.

DESCRIPTION:Join the 1K and 5K family-friendly Boardwalk Fun Run\nSaturday\, April 1\, 8am \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSwap out your flip flops for running shoes and join the fun with this family-friendly race through the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk! \n1K- Ages 12 and Under\n5K- Ages 4 and Up \nCelebrate your accomplishment with:\n\nFinisher medal\nBoardwalk treats\nUp to 2 hours of free-play in the Casino Arcade\n$15 Off Ride Wristband for race day\n\nContinue the fun after the race is over! Go on rides\, play games and enjoy the beach! \nThis year a portion of the proceeds will benefit Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services. \n\n\n\n\nRegister Now \nOnline reistration ends March 22. Limited onsite registration is available on event day from 7-8am at the Season Pass/Group Services Office.
