She has a PhD from UCSC in Environmental Studies where she studied the impact of the North American Free Trade Agreement on the farms of west central Mexico. Her book entitled The Farmworkers’ Journey summarizes the results\, arguments and conclusions of her research and was published by UC Press. She has been recognized for her work by The U.S. Congress and many organizations. She was chosen as a Woman of the Year for 2013 and 2014 by the National Association of Professional Women. In March 2018\, she was chosen for a 16th Annual Cesar E. Chavez Community Award in Watsonville and as Woman of the Year by Mark Stone’s 29th District for 2019. \nDr. Lopez’ research findings while interviewing central California farmworker families and their family members in Mexico were fundamentally disturbing and life transforming. As a result\, she is actively attempting to create awareness about the Human Rights abuses that are endemic to every juncture of the migrant circuit. A decade has past since this market became year round and here you will find an excellent selection of organic produce from local farms\, tree ripened fruits\, dried fruit and nuts\, fresh bread\, pastries\, seafood\, pasture-raised organic meats and more. The market is also the epicenter of the clean food movement\, showcasing amazing Sunday brunch offerings like traditional Michoacan Mexican dishes\, dumplings\, crepes and artisan hand pies. This is your Sunday destination. \n  \nMarket Match\nMarket Match offers farmers’ market customers a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10 on their CalFresh (food stamp) cards at the Live Oak Market. If a customer swipes their CalFresh card for seven dollars\, they get seven dollars in Market Match tokens for free. Swipe $10\, you get $10. The goal of this project is to encourage CalFresh (EBT/SNAP) recipients to take advantage of fresh\, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. By offering an incentive that lowers the price of fresh produce\, we are helping shoppers stretch their food dollars while keeping their families healthy.
