We hope you will join the thousands of volunteers worldwide that will be participating this year! \nVolunteer registration is now open! Follow the steps to register and get yourself ready to make an impact! \nInterested in leading one of our cleanup sites? Each year we coordinate between 50-70 cleanup sites throughout Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. This event would not be possible without community members who volunteer as a site captain. Site captains take on the role of leading a cleanup event at one of our sites\, this entails bringing cleanup supplies provided by SOS to the location\, checking in volunteers\, providing the safety and data collection instructions\, and returning all supplies\, waivers\, and data to Save Our Shores after the cleanup event. Fall is a great time to begin to add native plants to your home landscape and the Santa Cruz Public Library has a wealth of resources to help us garden with land stewardship in mind. \nAfter a presentation\, we’ll go outside to have a hands on workshop on starting and saving seeds for future planting. You will go home with baby seedlings\, seeds and a list of helpful books that can be checked out from the library’s amazing collection. Each shade told a story of the earth\, the seasons\, and the creativity of the people who lived here in the 1800’s. \nVisit the Castro Adobe open house to see the Santa Cruz Textile Art Guild demonstrating weaving and dyeing skills used in early California. Some of the dyes will actually be extracted from the flowers in the picture that were recently grown in Joe’s Garden on the Rancho \nOur open house will be on Saturday\, September 21 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Listen to live music by the Poet Laureate of Watsonville\, Bob Gomez and his wife Denise while viewing our newly installed interpretive displays. Learn how to download and organize your music collection\, use Rekordbox to prepare your playlists\, and mix harmonically. \nPreparing your set – Learn about the different formats and how to download and organize your music library. Get your hands on the controls and learn how to load your tracks. From there we will go over how the DJ equipment is set-up and go over some options so that if you decide to buy your own you’ll be set to play in no time. You will have a chance to play a track on a Pioneer DDJ mixer. \nThis program is intended for teens ages 12 – 18.
