The Santa Cruz Film Festival is about enhancing awesome films by showing them in unconventional places with unexpected surprises. It’s all happening in a city and county where odd, interesting, and unusual are the norm. Located in a diverse arts community we show films from high school and college students, new and burgeoning filmmakers, as well as established pros. We not only screen films, we make you experience them.

To whet your whistle, here are a few film synopses:
Sam Now: Filmed over an expanse of 25 years, two brothers go on a 2,000-mile road trip to solve a family mystery. Shooting on nearly every camera format imaginable, from hand-developed Super-8 film to Arri 4K, Sam Harkness and his older half brother Reed use their creative world of fiction filmmaking to dive headfirst into dealing with the issue at hand: Sam’s mom is missing. SAM NOW is about growth. The film balances heavy themes and emotional reckonings with buoyant energy and lighthearted spirit. The optimistic teenage Sam we get to know, with his heart set on finding his mom, grows into a man whose new hope is to break the cycle of intergenerational trauma.
The Soul of a Cyclist: Through a group of cyclists and their common interest in the “classic” bicycle, we’ll discover values that are being lost in our modern society, such as the importance of friendship, ecology, valuing the old, minimalism and other important premises to achieve a happier, simpler, and more fulfilled life with what really matters. As in life, in this documentary, bicycles transport us in our discovery, in our reflection.
We Are All in This Together: During divisive times in America, a man sets off on a cross-country bicycle journey, with no food, no money, and the hope of gaining a better understanding of the human connection.
