Astronomy Shows at DeAnza College Planetarium

Spring is here and so are shows in the Planetarium! Join us at the De Anza College Planetarium for astronomy shows this Saturday at 1, 2:45 and 4:30 p.m. Then, to support AAPI Month, we are showing “Wayfinders: Waves, Winds and Stars” at 7 p.m. See you in the dome! http://ow.ly/1RQS50IYfMX

May 14 @ 1:00 p.m. – Magic Tree House, Price: $10.00, Family Audience / Children 4 yrs and older

In Magic Tree House: Space Mission, a mysterious “M” sends the intrepid Jack and Annie on a fun-filled journey to discover the secrets of the Sun, Moon, planets, space travel and more. Aligned with early elementary information skills learning objectives, this beautifully produced show is a winner with Magic Tree House fans of all ages.

Explore the relationship between the Earth, Moon and Sun with the help of an amusing character adapted from Native American oral traditions who has many misconceptions about our home planet and its most familiar neighbors. How do the Earth, Moon and Sun work together as a system and what is the myth and science behind it? Why does the Sun rise and set? Why do we see different constellations during different seasons? What is an eclipse? Learn about the Moon’s phases and orbit. Explore past and future space travel to our Moon and beyond.

May 14 @ 4:30 p.m. – Cosmic Journey, Price: $15.00, Family Audience / Children 8 yrs and older

Travel from the outermost reaches of the solar system faster than the speed of light, taking in the wonders of the planets and their moons, from Pluto to Earth, zoom past planets revolving above you. See the ringed systems of the outer planets and the detail of various moons, all digitally rendered using real images from satellites. Finally, return home to Earth and contrast our home planet with the other worlds you’ve explored.

May 14 @ 7 p.m. – Mayan Archeoastronomy,Price: $15.00, General Audience – Children 8 years and older

In a feast of colors and sounds, Mayan Archaeoastronomy: Observers of the Universe makes a tour of 6 Mayan temples: San Gervasio, Chichen Itzá, Uxmal, Edzná, Palenque and Bonampak where the spectator dives into a Mayan world of knowledge about the importance of the orientations of its temples in relation to the movement of some stars like the Sun, the Moon and Venus.

The Planetarium is located on the De Anza College campus, behind the Science Center building near parking Lot E.

Parking

Parking is $3 every day, including weekends. You can purchase a parking permit at the yellow machines located in each parking lot or garage.

We recommend parking in Lot E for weekend shows. Please allow time to park and purchase a parking permit before the show begins.
