Looking Forward: Art Outdoors, Hike to Heal

Friends of Santa Cruz County Parks invite community members who lived through the CZU Lightning Complex fires to a special art exhibition beginning May 8, 2021 at the Felton Branch Library and Discovery Park.

Art Hike & Heal
May 8 • 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Felton Branch Library and Discovery Park

The park’s accessible nature loop will debut an ongoing installation by local photographer Devi Pride, a fire survivor documenting the impacts of the CZU fires through art. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a self-directed “Storybook Walk” featuring pages from “The Hike,” a children’s book by Alison Farrell.

While the exhibition will be ongoing, the premier event takes place May 8 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Visit countyparkfriends.org/hiketoheal for more info. This is the second Art Hike in County Park Friends’ summer series, coming soon to multiple locations across our community.

Partner organizations will also be giving away nature journals and sketchbooks, and resource tables will be available with the latest recovery information. The event is a collaboration between the Santa Cruz Long Term Recovery Group, County Park Friends, Santa Cruz Public Libraries, Santa Cruz County Parks, Felton Library Friends and the Live Like Coco Foundation.

The event is free and wheelchair accessible. For more on local recovery efforts, visit santacruzcounty.us/or3.aspx.

“This project is dedicated to everyone who has personally felt the effects of the fires and to this beautiful land we call home,” said Pride, owner of Devi Pride Photography. “May we behold the forest as our inspiration for healing as we strive for harmony and balance.”
